By Lieutenant D. Wallace
August 30, 2016

On Tuesday August 30, 2016 at 9:59am the Elverson Honeybrook Area EMS were dispatched along with the Honey Brook Fire Company and Medic 93 for an accident reported serious. Ambulance 189-2, 189-2 and ambulance 89 all made the immediate response along with Assistant 33. Initial reports received were a tractor trailer vs 4 cars and multiple trailers into a house. Ambulance 189-2 and Assistant 33 arrived onscene confirming the report with the patient being the driver of the truck. Ambulance 189-2 went to assist the driver with self-extricating himself from the vehicle while the crew from ambulance 189-1 went into the residence with 12A01 to confirm that no other patients were in the residence. The residence was cleared after a search and 322 command notified (Assistant 33). Rescue 33 and Engine 33 arrived onscene and began controlling hazards and taping off the sidewalk so that pedestrians could not walk into the scene as crews were working.

After evaluating the patient, Ambulance 189-2 and Medic 93 then transported to Brandywine Hospital while Rt 322 command requested both ambulance 189-1 and 89-1 to remain on location for the duration of the call. Route 322 command approached the EMS crews to request Rehab 89 to the scene due to the extreme heat.

Once the rehab unit arrived on location crews from the EHBAEMS set up rehab with the rehab trailer providing AC to the firefighters, the crew placed the rehab tent up and set out chairs and tables for the firefighters to sit and relax while escaping the sun and hydrate with some water.

Flings towing and Bresslers Towing Companies arrived on location and started to slowly remove the truck. West Brandywine Police were then called into the scene to perform a D.O.T check on the truck before the tow companies could remove any other trailers from the scene and house. Once the D.O.T exam was completed the tow companies continued to remove the trailers.

Route 322 command released the rehab unit and ambulances from the scene at 1620hrs.

EHBAEMS would like to thank the Turkey Hill in Honey Brook Borough for supplying ice and restrooms for the crews, and want to thank the Honey Brook Fire Company for providing lunch.
