On Tuesday September, 7th shortly before 3 pm station 189 ambulance along with Station 33 (Honey Brook Fire Company) were dispatched to the intersection of Horseshoe Pk and Cambridge Rd in Honey Brook Twp for an accident with unknown injuries.
The crew from Ambulance 189-3 made the immediate response after being dispatched and quickly arrived on location to find a two vehicle accident with one victim still trapped inside one of the vehicles. After a brief scene size up ambulance 189-3 requested to add Medic 93 to the assignment it was then determined that the patient was trapped in the vehicle, upgrading the incident to an accident with entrapment. Due to the patient being critical condition Jeffstat 3 helicopter was placed on standby.
Assistant 33 arrived on location and assumed "Rt 322 command" with Rescue 33 arriving shortly after and beginning extricating the patient out of the vehicle. It was determined by EMS on location that the patient would need to be flown, and the helicopter was requested into the scene. Once firefighters were able to remove the door from the vehicle, the patient was extricated and secured in the ambulance.
Upon arrival of the helicopter the patient was airlifted to a local trauma center.
Multiple companies were dispatched to assist with traffic control at the scene. Rt 322 and Cambridge Road remained closed for an extended period of time due to the Pennsylvania State Police conducting an investigation and reconstruction of the crash.
