Accident With Entrapment Cupola Rd & Forrest Rd

18:21hrs – Ambulance 189-1 was dispatched to assist station 33 on an accident with entrapment at Cupola Rd & Forrest Rd, the vehicle reported overturned in the roadway. After making an immediate response Ambulance 189-1 received an update reporting the vehicle was overturned blocking the roadway with 2 subjects trapped, 1 subject not breathing. This update called for a response from Ambulance 89-1 to assist, while responding paramedic unit 93-3 requested a helicopter to be flown to the scene. Arriving on location the crew confirmed the report, EMS found one subject upside down not breathing in the vehicle, and an additional subject trapped in the vehicle. While one crew member from ambulance 189 kept the pinned subject calm, the other crew member performed a rapid extrication of the non-breathing patient removing him from the wreckage and began immediate CPR until paramedic 93-3 from Brandywine hospital arrived on location and began ALS interventions. The crew from station 33 began to perform an extrication of the pinned subject while Ambulance 89-1 arrived on location, the crew from ambulance 89-1 began assisting with CPR and packaging the patient for transport. After receiving one shock by paramedic 93-3, the patient was found to have regained pulses on scene. After stabilizing the patient, the patient was flown to a local trauma center by helicopter. A second helicopter was canceled for the second subject involved after being removed from the vehicle and evaluated by EMS, that subject was also taken to a local trauma center for treatment with ALS care provided by Lancaster paramedic 440. All units were clear of the scene by 19:20hrs.
