Station 89 pays respects to one of our forefathers

October 14, 2016

Early this afternoon, members of Elverson-Honey Brook Area EMS & the Twin Valley Fire Department paid respects to one of our forefathers who recently passed away.

Mr. Ira Mast was a member of the Elverson Fire Company since 1949...serving as Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief, Treasurer, Ambulance Captain and also served on the ambulance committee.

Ira volunteered his time and skills as an Emergency Medical Technician for many years for the ambulance division and had a positive impact on countless patients. He was one of the first EMT's in the history of Chester County, and he was invaluable in helping to get Elverson's ambulance out on calls during the daytime, when the ambulance was an all volunteer service.

Ira also originally owned the former farmland that the current Fire/EMS station sits on.

As a tribute, Ambulances 89-2 & 89-3 and Ladder 69, with assistance from Lionville Fire Company Tower 47 and Brandywine Hospital Medic 193, performed a memorial arch and apparatus display in front of Stations 69 & 89. Chief Mast's funeral procession travelled east on Route 23, southeast on Route 401 into the rear entrance of the station, around the station, and under the arch before travelling back onto Route 23 to go to the cemetery.

We continue to offer our condolences to Chief Mast's family and friends, and we would like to thank Chief Mast for his faithful and dedicated service to the Elverson community and the surrounding areas. Godspeed Chief!

Thanks to the Lionville Fire Company for your assistance today.
