Baby Girl born in Ambulance 89-1

October 12, 2016

At 6:59 PM on the evening of Wednesday, October 12, Ambulance 89-1 was dispatched to a residence in Caernarvon Township, Berks County for a maternity.

On arrival, EMT's Dunlap and Eno entered the residence and found the patient in the end stages of labor. The patient was removed to the ambulance, and due to the patients past history, Advanced Life Support (ALS) was requested as a precaution.

An ALS unit from Southern Berks Regional EMS was dispatched to assist, and a rendezvous was established on Interstate 176, and transport was continued.

At 7:40 PM, a baby girl was born in the back of the ambulance while enroute to the hospital. Mom and baby were cared for until arrival at the hospital, and care was transferred to the Labor and Delivery staff.

We offer our congratulations and best wishes to the family.
